Luke Walker Band
Luke Walker picked up a guitar for the first time when he was 13 years old and has been stuck to it ever since. At 15 he went to his first open mic (at the Iron Horse Pub). At 19 he started booking shows in Wichita Falls. Because of its reputation as “the Music Capital of the World”, at 21 he packed his bags and moved to Austin. His first show was at BD Rileys on 6th Street, and he subsequently played anywhere and everywhere he could. He created an Open Mic for musicians to gather at every Tuesday at a venue called Posse East, and after years of hosting it he decided to pass the reins to a successor. It still exists today and is going on its 6th year. He later went to Dallas to try out a new scene, and played at venues like the House of Blues, Curtain Club and Black Swan, and at occasionally at restaurants. He has also done many weddings. “I love weddings because everybody is in such good spirits, even while the wedding planner is freaking out.” he has also played at dinner parties and art galleries. “Usually if someone asks me to play somewhere, I’ll say yes, and then we will talk about the details.”, he says. He captivates audiences with his smoothe finger-picking style of play, and with his gentle yet distinct voice. He is a singer-songwriter, with a catalog of 30+ original songs, some poppy and catchy, others more melodic, like a lullaby. He is also known to throw in American classics during his act, spanning generations. One may compare his writing style to that of Paul Simon’s, who writes both dreamy ballads as well as funky folk songs, usually guitar-in-hand. But he has drawn influences from many different genres. “I am not biased towards good music”. Luke just released an album called Jonesin’ and his newest album Runnin’ is on deck and is set to be out in May. The multi-instrumentalist Bo Fain will be accompanying Luke on stage dawning his beloved cello, and Mr. Strat himself Jimi Divine will be there as well with his signature ax. It will be a performance you won’t want to miss!
