Zac Wilkerson’s songwriting and performance style is Roots Rock with heavy Soul, Country and Folk influences.
Based out of Amarillo, Texas, the Vocalist, Songwriter, Guitarist and Frontman stumbled into a career in music after winning The Blue Light Live Singer Songwriter contest in 2011, earning himself a set at Larry Joe Taylor’s Texas Music Festival in Stephenville, TX. A few months later he handed in his two weeks notice to give his full attention to original music. He has since gained a loyal followings in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and beyond. With a strong presence in both Texas and Americana radio the music has spread even further.
Wilkerson cut his musical teeth in a country church where he started singing at 4. At a young age, he discovered his parents’ country, motown, rock, and folk records, creating a musical foundation with as much variety as passion. By 12 he played several instruments, including piano and guitar, which led to songwriting that same year. The musical voice that has evolved since is a fresh take on Rock, Soul, and Americana evoking, Aretha Franklin, Bill Withers, Bonnie Raitt and Levon Helm.
Walkin’ Johnny is David O’Dell, Ricky Fielder, Jose Romero, Brooke Whyrick, and Dillon Pirkle. Their groove on Country, Roots Rock, and Americana music has real stories, infectious hooks, harmonies, chicken-pickin licks, and an engaging live performance that they have cultivated from touring Texas and Oklahoma.
They have shared the stage with Cody Canada and The Departed, Koe Wetzel, Parker McCollum, and Judson Cole Band just to name a few and have played for Fort Worth’s Forth of July Festival and competed in 95.9 The Ranch’s “Ranch Factor.” Front man David O’Dell has also been invited and competed in the esteemed Larry Joe Taylor’s Singer/Songwriter Competition in March 2016 and Rattle Magazine’s Spring 2016 Singer/Songwriter Competition. Every venue and and every song is played with full commitment and passion as they keep working their way through the ranks of the Texas/Oklahoma scene.
The group has just released their EP titled “A Little Messed Up.” The record comes from living in the moment and realizing that life is not always going to be the picture perfect/ cookie cutter dream that everybody expects. Life is grinding and peaceful. It’s joyous and heartbreaking. It’s perfect, but a little messed up and that’s what makes it unique and special to the individual.
“We just want to make honest, good music, that creates emotion and makes people dance.”
